There are any number of outdoors pursuits that are more exciting and fast paced than walking, so why did you end up choosing walking and how did you get started? Did someone introduce you or did it just develop naturally from short occasional walks into something bigger?

My father always took us on walks in timberland and forests near our home. My mother was also quite an urban walker, as she detested bugs, snakes, and wild animals.

Because it's NOT fast paced. Gives time for enjoying scenery and wildlife, and thinking time or chatting with friends.

Walking is a way of getting away from the constant rush that modern life seems to be. Appreciating the world around you, seeing the sights and hearing the sounds of nature rather than traffic.
