Self confessed orchid lover

A few years ago I discovered the beauty of orchids and ended up with quite a few. They are just so beautiful to look at, add an amazing splash of colour to the room and last much longer than cut flowers.

I enjoy tending to them, it helps to clear my mind and bring a lot of joy.

Does anyone else have an interest in house plants?

I'd love to but I've not really got green fingers and indoor plants tend to die on me............good for you being able to cultivate and tend those orchids, I'm jealous.

I’ll have to take a photo of my mum’s kitchen windowsill when I’m next down there. She has quite a few orchids that I’ve bought her over the years. She finds benign neglect works well. One is still flowering regularly nine years after I got it for her.

We've got a fair few plants in the Conservatory, even manage to keep Basil and Parsley alive through the winter in there but Maz bought an Orchid earlier this year so they're new to us, any tips gratefully received although the 'benign neglect' is pretty much the regime that most of the plants get at ours. Although the 'Maidens Hair' Fern in the front room has coped with 25+ yrs of extreme neglect and is still going strong.

Plenty of light, not direct sun, water occasionally I use rain water. That is pretty much it, mine are all in clear plastic pots as they absorb light via their roots (apparently) .

Now that is good to know about the clear plastic pot, ours is currently in one but is out-growing it (the roots are starting to grow upwards out of the pot) and we were planning to re-pot it. I knew they needed to be quite 'Pot-bound' but would have probably used an opaque (normal) pot to do so.

Thanks
