The Cleveland Way runs for 109 miles from Helmsley, around the edge of the North York Moors to Saltburn, then down the coast to Filey.

We did the walk over 8 days - a 4 day holiday in October 2016 and another 4 day trip in March 2017. In both cases we started at Saltburn, so for the second section we were doing the walk 'backwards'.

Day 0
We met up at Malton (a relative lives there) and got the afternoon Coastliner bus to Whitby, where we stayed in the YHA overnight - a splendid position on top of the east cliff, next to the ruined abbey.

Day 1 - Saltburn to Runswick Bay - 12 miles
Bus from Whitby to Saltburn to start the walk.

Day 4 - Scarborough to Filey - 12 miles
Another day with excellent weather, and some time to spend sitting on top of the cliffs near Filey, before heading for the Coastliner to return to Malton.
